In the patent records, the hook is called Walter Hunt in 1849. But the hook is actually a much older one. There is evidence that Romans used some kind of hooked needle in 2000 years ago. The Romans have written names for many inventions, but most of them have been forgotten until they are re-invented in the new age. In 1842, Thomas Woodward received a patent for a hook with a different structure in America. This needle was attached to the metal piece attached to the tip of an ordinary needle. However, this had both security and usability problems.
